Statement by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on the reported killing of hostages in Nigeria
BRUSSELS, Kingdom of Belgium, March 11, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission issued the following statement today:
“I am appalled by reports that a number of hostages, including citizens from Greece, Italy, the UK and Lebanon, have been killed by their kidnappers in Nigeria. I condemn all hostage taking, and all acts of terrorism and violence.
The EU and its member states will continue to support the government and people of ¬igeria in addressing the current cycle of violence and terrorism. We are grateful for the close cooperation of the ¬Nigerian Government throughout this hostage crisis as well as the cooperation between the authorities of the Member States concerned.”
