Senegal & The Gambia: Traditions, Globalization, and Tourism in West Africa Summer C 2013
Have you ever wanted to go to Africa but haven’t had the opportunity to do so? African & African Diaspora Studies Program invites you to Senegal & The Gambia: Traditions, Globalization, and Tourism in West Africa Summer C 2013. This six-week study abroad program (one week in Miami and five weeks abroad) will allow you to experience West African cultures and traditions, attain rudimentary knowledge of the Wolof language, give you the opportunity to reflect upon globalization processes through the lens of tourism studies, and provide you with the unique chance to visit interesting destinations such as “the Petite Côte”, Dakar and Saint Louis in Senegal, and Banjul, Georgetown, and Juffureh in The Gambia.
Senegal and The Gambia Summer C 2013 is open to both undergraduate and graduate students and both required courses are three credits each. The core course, ANT 4473 Anthropology of Globalization<http://africana.fiu.edu/study-abroad/2013-summerc-senegal-gambia/courses/ant-4473-ang-6472-anth-of-global-su-c-2013-syllabus.pdf>, is a Global Learning course. There are scholarships available to help fund your trip! AADS and The Office of Study Abroad can work with you to help minimize the cost. In addition, including this experience in your resume will help you differentiate yourself in this highly competitive job market.
