Brain stimulation labs

Watch a video about our brain stimulation and cognitive testing labs.

We host four laboratories dedicated to state-of-the-art brain stimulation technology.

Brain stimulation is a set of methods used in research and clinical practice to activate neurons in the brain. These techniques have been used to treat a variety of conditions including Parkinson’s disease, depression and epilepsy.

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there is an error in the application.

We have also established methodological benchmarks and standard protocols for ensuring safe and reproducible applications of tES.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) facilities include multiple systems for repetitive and patterned offline protocols (including theta-burst stimulation), paired-pulse stimulation to measure GABAergic and glutamatergic neurophysiology and specialised technology for concurrent TMS and 3T MRI.

We have been at the forefront of methodological advances in TMS and TMS-MRI, including a passive shim that nearly eliminates one major source of interference between the techniques.

In addition to brain stimulation technology, our laboratories are equipped with the latest neuronavigation systems to permit targeting of TMS to specific cortical regions located within individual MRI scans.

Additional facilities

Extra facilities also include eye-tracking, electromyography (EMG) and systems for presenting visual, auditory and somatosensory stimuli.
