Africa Photography : Some Photos of the Sahara desert

I came across the first image whilst surfing on Flickr and it gave me the idea to look for more Sahara pix. I remember flying across the Sahara for 5 hours whilst on the way to Mali from Europe. It was amazing. So, I was pleased to find the following photo by Vim to zim2006 for this pic flying over the Sahara. I find the red colour in the dunes quite fascinating.

The following photo by airman_blue1 was taken in the early morning sun pic in Libya. I love the light and shade in this picture and the almost snake-like progression of small dunes between the two big ones.

Here’s another classic pic of Sahara dunes from quiquenamib of the Sahara in Mauretania. The ripple effect in the foreground is really striking.

Thanks to marinegirl for the following photo of Sahara dunes at Merzouga, which she says was taken after a never ending night bus from Fes. There is a sense of bleakness about the photo emphasised by what seems to be bones or abandoned objects in the foreground and a small habitation in the distance. The sky with its whispy clouds give a great contrast to the ground.

Finally here’s a couple of photos from  Ladigue_99 who has a number of rather stupendous pix on Flickr. Here is one of Sand dunes in the Sahara Desert – Acacus – Libya.

The Sahara desert is not all sand dunes. This picture is of a Rock formation inTadrartAcacus inLibya
It is situated close to the city of Ghat and near Algeria.
