A report from the United Nations asserts that the
The Nigerian film industry has overtaken Hollywood and closed the gap on India, the global leader in the number of movies produced each year.
The report asserts that one reason for this success is that “Nollywood” relies on video rather than film, which reduces the production costs and makes films available quickly. Most film screenings in Nigeria are informal rather than in cinemas. More than half of the Nollywood films are in local languages. The rest are in English which makes them easily exportable.
